Amedy Coulibaly, 32, who was killed Friday, discussed the attack at Charlie Hebdo before the violent events occurred. Rallies were held around the world Sunday in support of the 17 victims of the attacks. An estimated 1 million people were in attendance at the demonstration in Paris. Police in Germany also arrested two men who allegedly set fire to a newspaper that republished a Charlie Hebdo cartoon featuring the Prophet Muhammad.
The terrorist who killed a policewoman and four hostages at a kosher grocery store in Paris pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State in a chilling video released Sunday where he explains the motivation behind the recent terrorist attacks in France.
The video was released on the same day as 1 million people marched in solidarity in France and thousands more around the world denounced the violence that began Wednesday with the murder of 12 people at the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper.
The 32-year-old, who was killed by police Friday after taking the hostages Friday, speaks in fluent French and fumbles over some Arabic words as he speaks from a statement, reports The Associated Press.
"What we are doing is completely legitimate, given what they are doing," Amedy Coulibaly states while looking into the camera. "You cannot attack and not expect retribution, so you are playing the victim as if you don't understand what's happening."
But Paris was flooded with people who showed support for the 17 victims in the recent attacks. Other demonstrations were also held around the world including London, Madrid, New York, Cairo, Sydney, Stockholm and Tokyo.
